| Who Are We Anyway?
Work at The Star led first to additional newspaper reporting in Maine and then to work as an editor at the national headquarters of the American Automobile Association. Before long, Susan created her own company and began writing for businesses around the U.S. Since then, Susan has written for nearly 100 publications and consulted for more than a dozen organizations. Her areas of business-writing expertise include property-casualty insurance, specialty finance, information technology, and transportation. She has also written extensively about customer service, compensation and a bevy of other business topics. Clients range from small firms to thriving associations and major financial services companies. Susan writes creatively as well. She holds a certificate in creative nonfiction from the University of Chicago’s Graham School and has published nonfiction in The Washington Post, The Washington Times, The Denver Post and other newspapers. She is now at work on a nonfiction book. Susan’s involvement in professional associations has included membership in the National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO) and Washington Independent Writers (WIW), from which she received the WIW Small Groups Leadership Award in 2006. Other awards include Excellence in Feature Writing, from Writing Concepts (twice), and a win in the Feature Writing Competition, sponsored by Dolphin Communications.
Beth’s fascination for words and attraction to writing are deep-rooted. By junior high school, she had immersed herself in writing projects and developed a passion for crafting stories and well-built sentences. Editors recognized her talent and appreciated her ability to present accurate information clearly during her time at Virginia Tech, where she was asked to write numerous articles for the weekly campus newspaper, The Collegiate Times. A professional writer since 1994, Beth has written for an impressive list of colleges and health systems, including Duke University Medical Center, Carilion Health System, Roanoke College and Virginia Western Community College. She has also created corporate communications materials for large companies, penned copy and web content for advertising firms, and written feature articles for business and leisure publications. Recently, Beth was recognized by the Roanoke Valley’s arts and leisure magazine, City Magazine, as one of Roanoke’s top writers. |
